The sound of dried leaves crunching underfoot in Central Park is one of those magical New York moments that heralds the beginning of many New Yorkers favorite season: Fall. As the air becomes crisper and the nights longer, boots and scarves are unpacked from storage, windows are opened for the first time in months, and each warm day is savored before the city is plunged into another winter.
For someone like me who loves getting dressed, Fall is an exciting time because the season provides the best opportunity for creative expression with clothing. It’s cool enough to layer your favorite sweaters and jackets without being so cold as to be hibernating under a parka. To get ready for the season, I partnered with Clarks to style their Sawtel Hi Boots three different ways, shot in and around the great city I am privileged to call home. These boots have great versatility; whether worn trudging through country fields or trekking across Times Square, they’ll provide a lot of mileage.
This first look we shot outside the city (we found the one tree that had started turning early). I went with a military color palette of tan and olive, which worked well with distressed acid-wash denim and went nicely with the olive canvas in the boots. A leather backpack is a great accessory for Fall when you’re moving about the city and are your own traveling office.
Monochromatic layering is a high-impact style when done right. This all-tan look at the Long Island City waterfront is perfect camouflage for a hay maze and makes me feel ready to go hunting…for some pumpkins.
There’s no place in the country that has more foot traffic than Times Square, so testing these boots out there was the ultimate test. We walked over from Central Park to shoot this final look, which comprised raw denim jeans, a suede shirt layered over a T and a fedora.
My favorite thing about these Clarks is that they’re a hybrid between a classic leather boat shoe but with the ruggedness of a boot. The brown leather and stitching create rich accents while the inner construction is just as cared for with foot bed mapping technology that makes for an comfortable journey, wherever you’re headed.
