Last week, I had the pleasure of getting early access to a movie I had already been super excited about: the new Disney film, Into the Woods. The movie takes a few of the classic fairy tales we all know—Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Little Red Riding Hood, and Rapunzel—and combines them into a totally new story (well, new if you didn’t get to see the Tony Award–winning Broadway musical upon which it’s based). Those of us who know the original Grimm fairytales, which were the first adaptions of old European folktales, understand that they can be very extreme with the morals they’re trying to communicate. Into the Woods has that authentic aspect to it, but with the beloved Disney flair and a few modern references to make it more accessible. The performances and costumes, of course, were fantastic, and Meryl Streep (as the Witch) and Emily Blunt (as the Baker’s Wife) were particularly mind-blowing. Overall, it’s definitely a movie the entire family will enjoy as there’s something entertaining in it for everyone! To give you a taste of just how great it is, check out the trailer here.
