Classy Paisley

About Prints …

Prints in many forms and on many different types of clothing, especially shirts, are really in demand right now. What exactly defines a print per se, you might ask. So lets shed some light on the matter: In general, we distinguish between printed and dyed fabrics. Usually, you can’t tell whether a pattern exists because of a print, or because, for example, the yarns have been dyed and woven into a pattern. The biggest give-away is the flip-side of a garment. Have the fibers, yarns, or clothes been dyed, you should see the same colors, in the same patterns on there, whereas prints will kind of shimmer through, but the colors will look faded in comparison. Printing techniques have gotten sophisticated, and now a good print has hardly any qualitative disadvantages to a dyed piece. A positive aspect that it adds is that prints happen way later in the production of a garment. So if you can decide later in the process, which starts around 2 years beforehand with color-forecasting, there is less risk evolved, because it is much closer to the point where the merchandise is actually on the selling floor. In addition prints are cheaper to produce, hence usually cheaper for you to buy.

Having covered this little “printing” chapter, we move on to the outfit. This little paragraph was based on my shirt, which happens to have a paisley print on it. Paisley is trending right now, in various colors and sizes and can add lots of interest to a look. I got it from Topman, just like the Denim jacket that goes on top of it, styling it like a blazer. The beanie is from American Apparel, and also an accessory that has become vastly accepted by many men and women alike. It adds on to the casual breakdown of the classier shirt, that the denim jacket had initiated. Again, denim on denim as seen in a previous post, I am wearing my Allsaints skinny jeans. I’m repeating the Bordeaux color in the double-monkstraps, also from Allsaints, as well as the striped Club Monaco pocket square. The leather bag was handed down to me from my mom’s boyfriend; a wonderful vintage piece by Marianelli, which gives the whole look a more dapper flair again.

So I hope you learned a little bit about prints today, and go out and find a paisley, or differently printed shirt that tickles your fancy!
