Modern Flashback

The look: Denim Jacket – Topman // Shirt – Tailored Denim // Hat – Diesel 55 // Pants – Koto // Desert Boots – Clark’s Original // Bowtie – H&M

Let’s talk a little bit about fashion in the sense of timing. I think it is pretty obvious to us that the majority of styles return, and that some styles seem to stick around for longer and others seem to disappear instantly. There’s actual terminology for that in the fashion industry: when a specific style comes into fashion very fast and everybody hypes it, but it disappears just as quick as it showed up, we call it a fad. The opposite to that would be called a classic: after gaining popularity, a classic style has an extended “culmination” period – examples would be a white button down shirt, a navy blue double breasted blazer, or denim jeans. Other fashions go through a relatively set circle of stages: invention, growth, culmination, decline and obsolescence. Just because I style has once become obsolete, that does not mean that it will stay like that forever. Take denim jackets for instance. They were HUGE in the eighties and early 90’s and then disappeared with a big fat stamp that said “DONE” on the box we stuffed all of them in. Now we see them trending again, but you will find that the fit is generally changed to a much more fitted one. With most fashions that reappear, you will always find a slight adaption to make it work with the current fashion.

Using the denim jacket as my segue – here’s my outfit: Camo pants by Koto, a recent gift by my buddy Stefano. He got them at Urban Outfitters; dope pants, obviously trending with ther camo print, and I personally like that the flip side is completely plain (proof that it is most certainly a print). I went for a little bit of a hipster look wit the Diesel 55 hat and the rough wool bow tie, to add a specific style to the wide pin stripe shirt and the denim jacket. The shoes repeat the brown in the lower body-half and work well with the aesthetic of the entire outfit, I thought.

Let me know what you think and whether there’s anything you’d like to ask or see me wear. I would love for you to be more interactive and start forming this blog together with me 🙂
