The second category of my footwear selects: This time I looked for modern and contemporary shoes, for the Fall 2014 season. In essence, shoes that aren’t really a classic sneaker, or oxford, or boot, etc. but had an updated silhouette, new features and a different feel, making it necessary to put in its own category. Notice also that almost all of them are black, which is going to be a big trend next fall for men in general, not only in New York. Once again, here we go breaking it down by model:
I had already introduced you to Ransom in the previous Sneaker post, but the modern footwear company doesn’t only have cool sneakers to offer, but also these updated hiking boots which caught my eye. I really like the contrasting sole and the simplicity in its lines. A strong black and white statement.
Camper is a brand that you could be familiar with by now if you’ve followed me for a while and have seen posts like this one or this one. It’s a Spanish company, and some of their styles really hit the nail on the head. This shoe combines elements of a sneaker, with a classic cap-toe oxford, once again all black. A good one to be on the lookout for next fall.
Similarly, this guy right here, also from Camper, combines a very classic oxford top with a contrasting over-sized white sole. The large profile should give you traction in any weather condition, and also just looks great.
Alessandro Dell’Acqua is the designer of this shoe above. The Italian brand is open to experiment with classic styles and moving them to the next level. This brogued wingtip is lace-less, and the modern layered foam sole, make it comfortable to wear, much like a sneaker.
One of the biggest companies to push the sneaker-sole is probably Cole Haan, a company formerly owned by active wear giant Nike. This double-monk strap is a gorgeous example of what Cole Haan has become famous for: dapper and comfortable at the same time.
Finally, we move to my last pick, something I think is absolutely futuristic: Donald J. Pliner creates shoes like these, but also other shoes that look like authentic leather, with a micro-fiber fabric. Micro-fiber stimulates the blood-flow, is breathable and basically music to your feet’s ears. From a vegan perspective: you get the look of real leather (I swear I couldn’t make out the difference), but without the guilt and with added benefits. How’s that for a “modern” shoe?
