The Silk Bomber Jacket is This Season’s Must-Have Item

Silk Bomber Jacket

Have you never noticed that after you spot something once, you tend to notice it again and again? It’s like that arrow in the FedEx logo, or something you glance at while shopping online that follows your around wherever you go. In this case I’m talking about the embroidered silk bomber jackets I first saw on the Perry Ellis runway last month. Since then, they’ve been popping up in my peripheral vision at every stylish outing.

The trendy bomber jackets of today take their inspiration from 70’s bowling jackets – so called because men actually used to wear them as part of a bowling team uniform. The typically are made of silk or polyester and feature ribbing around the cuff and neck. Designers have reinterpreted them by adding embroidery and appliqué details. At Louis Vuitton for Spring / Summer 2016, jackets featured birds of paradise, Cavalli did his take with scorpions and a tiger head. At Perry Ellis it was floral motifs. It’s now hard to miss them on the backs of every stylish pop star.

Luckily, you don’t have to go to high end to incorporate the bomber jacket into your wardrobe. Since they’ve been around forever, you can likely score a vintage version on Ebay or your local thrift store if you’re ready to do a little digging. Otherwise, there are plenty of high street versions around now.

I’d wear these with black jeans and some fresh sneakers for a downtown look. You’ll want a bomber in your wardrobe come Fall when you can effortlessly throw this on as the weather cools. Here are some bomber options at various price points.
