A lovely Sunday in Brooklyn ..
.. entailing the famous Brooklyn Flea Market and a trip to the Fort Greene Park – might as well dress the part, I thought, and tried to “Brooklyn it up”. Whatever I’m up to on a certain day inspires what I’m going to wear. “Duhhhh!!” some of you might think, but it’s actually not that obvious often times. But if your outfit matches your environment, not only will you feel comfortable, but people will also consider you tasteful.
“In fashion, taste refers to prevailing opinion of what is and what is not attractive and appropriate for a given occasion. Good taste in fashion, therefore, means sensitivity not only to what is artistically pleasing but also to what is appropriate for a specific situation.” – Elaine Stone, The Dynamics of Fashion.
To match the chill Brooklyn flair, I wore the following: Firstly, a new multicolor T-Shirt I got from Urban Outfitters. Keeping the denim on denim trend going, I combined my chambray shirt from Marc By Marc Jacobs with my H&M jeans. I styled the shirt open, as a casual layer between the T and the jacket, which is from Cheap Monday. The styling is completed by a few simple things: beanie and circle scarf from American Apparel, Leopard frame glasses from a street vendor, wingtip sneakers from Aldo, and sleeves and pants rolled up a little bit.
So, remember that “taste” is defined as the right dress for the right occasion, and is therefore appropriate. Let your agenda inspire you for your outfit that day and never be considered tasteless. (Side-note: you have to know the rules to break them..)
