BOOTS: UGG Australia
—
Hey everybody,
as part of my collaboration with the Creative Council, UGG Australia asked me to style what can be a challenging boot: the Mini Deco. I grew up in Germany as most of you know, where UGG Boots were always the winter boots of choice, for both men and women who were a little more fashion-forward. When I got my first pair, I was unaware, much like most of you probably are, that the boots were originally a summer boot. They were first introduced on the West Coast of the USA, which just made the whole concept of the boot so much cooler to me — so much more complex.
Obviously, they made the transition into bigger cities, and thus found their way onto my feet 🙂 I decided to style them grungy in the first look, and for the second look I went with a more relaxed, “West Coast” kind of vibe. Starting off with the first one, I wanted to create a look that was pretty clean at the core of it, but had rough edges: obviously, I went with the white crisp shirt as that basis, but then rolled up the sleeves, untucked it and threw a vest on top. A big step towards the grunge are definitely the DIY’d jeans, with paint splatter and holes in them. I thought it was awesome that the brown color of the thread at the broken parts of the pants matched the brown leather stitching on the back of the boot, which is an awesome new feature they added. I accessorized in black and found a cool spot in DUMBO to shoot the whole look.
The second one we shot right around the corner, and is a lot more clean and subdued than the first look. The jeans match the color of the boots and thus make for a smoother transition. The t-shirt drapes beautifully and gives the look a lot of the aesthetic. To make the entire surface more interesting I added the denim shirt, but then found myself appreciating the simplicity and taking it off for a few shots.
All in all I had a fun time with this project, and maybe I could reset you’re mindset about UGG boots as a winter boot, to a more versatile, year-round option 🙂
My favorite is the watch and the sunglasses!
