The PROJECT show has come to an end in New York, but I have another few of my favorites to share with you (and one more look ;). Remember that what you see below is Spring/Summer 2015, and is not yet available, yet you can click the links to the brands to see what it is they are doing this season!
Men are wearing more shorts, and so for next year, as we get more comfortable doing so, we get more options, more exciting prints, patterns, colors and fabrics. I picked my 8 favorites to show some diversity of what you could be walking around in, less than a year from now …
Starting with this fun graphic paisley print, we definitely are jumping right in. We see a sort of 3D effect caused by the layering of the red print over the blue print, causing a lot of stimulation. I’d suggest wearing it with a navy button-down shirt and white slip-on canvas sneakers.

Denim is a art and a craft, and the folks over at Raleigh Denim + Workshop know they’re way around all of that. What particularly stood out though, was this beautiful denim short, yet again combining red and blue, though with the blue weighing in more heavily here, in a more abstract grid pattern, something we haven’t seen around too much. I would probably opt for a white t-shirt and navy high-tops. If you’re feeling like sprucing it up a little, maybe a red bandana would be something to consider — neck, wrist ankle, head .. wherever.

To be completely honest, this might be my personal favorite. A fairly non-repetitive but still structured splash print, on a soft cotton shirt. It’s part of a combination with a suit jacket, which I liked, but I loved the shorts a lot more, because it’s a lot easier to wear. I’m thinking a white oxford and a lightly knit mid-grey cardigan, unbuttoned, with classic white canvas Converse.

Here, things are getting racy. W.R.K. is a fantastic brand and this season the designer Matteo Gottardi went with his car obsession and came up with fun prints like the below. It’s young and funky, and very concrete. You can go for a playful vibe, maybe with a navy sweater and some Nike Roshes, but I would probably use a white t-shirt and a sharp navy blazer to balance out the fun of the shorts, and give it a little more contrast, with navy suede slip on oxfords. (Don’t know what shoes I mean by that?! Click here.)

Matteo included a whole darn lot of fantastic shorts, and showed an overall great collection, so here we have another pair. Quite different than what you just saw, but equally awesome, if not more so. Basically is a casually beautiful brushed painting on your shorts. I love the mix of the earthy colors, and the uniqueness of the print, similar to something camo, but maybe there are flowers, or maybe nothing at all. Denim shirt and grey Nike Blazers is how I would style them.

Definitely a little more street than the rest of the shorts, we have a fun abstracted black and white floral print by Bespoken. The guys put together a sick collection and walk the line between dapper and street skillfully, but definitely leaning more towards the street end, the way I see it. What does that mean? You can wear these with snapback, tank and sneaks, or go with a white shirt, black blazer, and black oxfords. Either way: these are dope!

We saw a bunch of polka dots on the streets outside of Pitti Uomo this season, one of the biggest menswear trade shows internationally, and here we have them in a royal blue on light grey fabric. Guess where these are from? That’s right — Italy. This might be more of a European trend for the moment, but be ahead of the curve and get with it, you’ll be looking flyer than the rest next spring 🙂 Cream colored, light sweater and white, low-top Common Projects. Boom.

Now I was a little unfortunate — my camera acts up at times, and I only took two shots of each short as I got into a certain routine. Turns out that both pictures of the 8th short were corrupted, but you can still see the print wonderfully in the picture below. The last short is by Slate & Stone. We’ve seen floral prints around, so now designers need to adjust and interpret them their own way to keep it fresh. I love the very two-dimensional influence, the colors and style reminiscent of Asian culture, and overall wonderfully springy.
That’s it — get ready to fight the heat in some of the coolest shorts from PROJECT NYC.
