It was my first time at Art Basel, and though I’d never been before, I can say with certainty that it was unlike most of them. Miami isn’t necessarily know for it’s tropical early December storms, but it made for a wonderfully different experience in the city. Persol had invited us out there as part of their yearly blogger trip, and with great company and awesome activities like hanging out on a yacht, we had plenty of reasons to be grateful 🙂

Aside from delicious food to be had, there was obviously an abundance of diverse art at the actual fair that remained little impacted by the weather outside of its walls. Artists from all over the world came to show their pieces at what really is most accurately described as a trade show for art — something I wasn’t quite aware of before having been there. I posted a picture of the most entertaining and photogenic piece on my Instagram, but many of the works of art really resonated with me. I think art has too much of a negative stigma, in that people think they are too uneducated to “consume” art, due to various (mis-) conceptions held by the general public. I decided to let go of those inhibitions a while ago and just started to appreciate art for what it is: if it speaks to me, that’s great, and I don’t need to justify why it does, from what centuries it stems, or what methods the artist used. All in all, a successful first time at Art Basel, Miami 🙂
