A Great Start to A Great Day

Our mornings set the tone for the rest of the day. This starts with a solid night of sleep, checking your attitude for the day ahead, and, of course, thinking through how you’re going to present yourself to the world on any given day. As you guys know, for me fashion is an essential part to that process: a form of self-expression, an extension of who you are, and maybe even an “emotional armor.” Our physical appearance is not limited to just clothing though – grooming is a huge part of that as well.

We’re just a little over one month into the New Year, and I’m working on my 2018 resolutions, and generally on improving myself. Thus, I’m very happy to announce that I’ll be working with Gillette this year, starting with today’s post, to teach you about one of the most essential parts of a man’s morning routine, about the company itself, and why I’ve been using Gillette since I grew my first “down” (won’t even dare to call what I had back then anything close to a beard, ha!). Today I want to share my go-to razor, the Gillette Fusion5 ProShield with FlexBall Technology. The sleek design and fantastic shave – enabled by the combination of several technologies – are the reasons this has been my #1 shaving tool for over a year now.

A comfortable morning shave is honestly as important a detail as a tie to a suit, and can be a very ritualistic or even meditative process for many guys out there, myself included. I personally have very sensitive skin, so I need to prep carefully and take my time shaving — I’ll also dive deeper into the topic of sensitive skin in another post in the near future. The before- and after-shave lubrication of the ProShield definitely helps a whole lot in terms of skin irritation. The FlexBall technology makes it incredibly easy to catch virtually every hair with a level of precision I haven’t found elsewhere. (Look for more on how Gillette blades are designed and built for the such a close, comfortable shave in the future, when we’ll also go visit the company’s Boston HQ). Gillette’s ProShield razors and blade refills are easy to order online and have delivered straight to your door with  Gillette On Demand, because the last thing you want to do is run to the store when you realize you’re out of blades.

Nice post, but I would suggest you consider stepping away from disposable razor technology and “foam in a can” to the more traditional approach of safety razor, brush and soap. In addition to a better environmental credential, with some practice it will likely get you a closer shave than you currently enjoy and you can tune your soap and razor to take great care of sensitive skin. The longer ritual of the wet shave will be an even more joyful part of your morning routine knowing that you’re using a tool designed to last decades, just like your father and grandfather used. Mr. King Camp Gillette brought us a marvelous innovation at the start of the 20th century with the disposable blade and safety razor – it hasn’t been bettered by his company or any other. Why not take a step back to the future?
